Ampiprotik, hirdrogen, Saponification, acid-base conjugation

Water is a chemical substance which has the chemical formula H2O.

In the above example can be seen that the water is as acidic (proton donor) and as a base (proton acceptor). Substances or ions or species like this is ampiprotik (amphoteric).
